Graphite Construction Study

Description

A pencil drawing left at the study stage: soft graphite tone built in directional strokes, the construction geometry still visible under the finished passages, and the tooth of the paper showing through everywhere. Edges are lost and found rather than outlined, and highlights are lifted back out with an eraser. It suits portraits, studies, book covers and any subject that should look drawn from life rather than finished for print.

Custom Style Items

Construction Scaffolding
Keep axes, ellipses, plumb lines, angle lines, and ghost contours visible beneath rendering.
Mark Direction
Hatching follows form and changes angle at plane shifts; combine raw marks with selectively stump-blended passages.
Highlight Method
Use untouched paper and softly edged eraser lifts; never paint white highlights.
Finish Falloff
Resolve the central form, reduce outward to block-in, and leave broad surrounding paper untouched.
Graphite Value Limit
Narrow pale-grey to dark-graphite range; darkest passages stop short of black with a subtle metallic sheen.
